Construction Project Schedule Change Delays Re-opening of School

Dear West Seattle Elementary School Families,

The project to expand West Seattle Elementary School has experienced a schedule delay. The project is now expected to be completed in January 2023 instead of August 2022.

The Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association and Teamsters Union Local 174 have been in contract negotiations for many months. The Association members are businesses that make the concrete. The Union represents the truck drivers who deliver the concrete. Because of these negotiations, concrete for the project was significantly delayed which impacted the construction schedule.

To avoid disruptions to the school year, West Seattle Elementary School will remain at the interim location at Schmitz Park School until the end of the 2022-23 school year.

West Seattle Elementary School will now reopen for the Fall 2023 start of school.
