    Message from Ms. Conyers

    Principal McCowan-Conyers

Dear West Seattle Elementary Parents and Community Members,

Welcome back for the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Pamela McCowan-Conyers and it is with much excitement and anticipation that I continue my work with the West Seattle Elementary school community as your new Principal. I am looking forward to building lasting relationships and partnerships with all of you. As the Principal of West Seattle Elementary, I want to ensure you that our students will receive a high-quality education that prepares them for high school, college and beyond. I look forward to working with our hardworking teachers and staff, parents and community to build on what is already a tradition of educational excellence at West Seattle Elementary. As an educator first and foremost, my goal is to make a difference and provide avenues where ALL students can succeed. I am energized and deeply committed to doing this and more for the students at West Seattle Elementary.

For the last 6 years, I have been an administrator at West Seattle Elementary. My background is varied: I have experience working at both the elementary and secondary levels.  I have experience working in and out of state in large and in small urban school settings. I have a vast amount of experience in Special Education and in leading Title 1 schools. Prior to moving to Seattle, I worked in Las Vegas, both as a teacher and a Special Education Supervisor.  I obtained my Masters’ degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  My life’s work has been dedicated to education.

As your new principal, I support a rigorous academic program that build lifelong learners and close the opportunity gap. I would like to continue to add programs that integrate the arts, sciences and fitness into our curriculum. I support the development of the whole child. I realize that this can only work with quality partnerships with parents, high school-wide expectations and clear values. Our collaborative school motto for the 2016/2017 school year is “Whatever it takes for kids!” We are a ‘child focused’ school.  Please be sure to carefully read the attached parent handbook.  Important dates and information are included in it.

I truly do believe and expect that “all of our student scholars can learn at high levels given a rigorous, relevant curriculum and strong relationships”. I also believe strongly in shared leadership for a successful school; leadership that is shared between staff, students, parents, community and administration. I understand that the buck stops with me and I accept this challenge; however, it definitely does “take a village”. Thank you in advance for supporting this belief system and shared commitment.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you soon!

    Pamela McCowan-Conyers
The Proud Principal of West Seattle Elementary
